Teaching Control Theory

NI myRIO hardware combined with NI LabVIEW software, the Quanser QUBE-Servo and courseware offers educators a turnkey, lab-ready solution for students to “Do Engineering” from introductory to advanced controls classes. NI has partnered with Quanser, the leading provider of high-fidelity educational control plants, to offer the Quanser QUBE-Servo platform.

The QUBE-Servo consists of a brushed DC motor with optical encoder position feedback, a PWM amplifier, and DAQ electronics all mounted within precision-machined aluminum housing. You can connect two modules, an aluminum inertia disk, and a sensed angle pendulum to the output shaft of the motor via a magnetic quick connect interface. The QUBE-Servo comes with complete courseware to ensure immediate integration into your academic program.


NI offers two QUBE-Servo panel interface options. The first is a myRIO interface panel that connects directly from myRIO to the QUBE-Servo. This option is suitable for customers who wish to teach controls with their myRIO devices. The other option is a direct I/O interface panel which connects the QUBE-Servo to a variety of NI hardware such as the Q1-cRIO. 

Both options require the Quanser Rapid Control Prototyping (RCP) Toolkit to program the QUBE-Servo. This toolkit is a program written by Quanser to accelerate controls prototyping by abstracting away the programming to interface with hardware, so students can focus on algorithm development instead of driver development.
